September 21, Autumn Equinox. The Fintan Foundation in beautiful Rheinau, host this September event in the magnificent Kloster room at 19.30. With some spontaneous verses in Scots Gaelic recited by Yannick Kadvany, and an introduction to the Celtic background of this serene place by local historian Marcus Sieber, this was an evening of rare harmony. Ten days later the Foundation hosted a walk through the Celtic landscape of the area between Rheinau and Bühl resulting in a day of revelation and surprises for all present. Saturday May 20, Keltische Musik und Gesichten in Waldhütte, Aesch ZH
Mit Catherine Rhatigan, Harfe, Brendan Wade, Pipes voice and flute, and Isabelle Hauser, storytelling (deutsch). Die Menschen keltischen Ursprungs finden nichts Aussergewohnliches daran, ihr Heim mit Marchenfiguren und sprechenden Tieren zu teilen und Ubersinnliches und Zauber zu erleben. Im 19. Jahrhundert meinte ein Sammler von Irischen Volkmarchen, dass je armer eine Person sei, desto wunderbarer und verschwenderischer ihre Fantasie und Marchen waren. The 9th Celtic Harp Festival in Vevey, Switzerland, is a wonderful four days of harp and fiddle classes, sessions, dance and concerts in a very picturesque area of the country.
Friday, April 21st features a concert with harp tutors from Ireland, Scotland and Switzerland in full swing. Eglise de la Chiésaz, Saint -Légier, 20.30 pm. Entrance free, with a collection at the end. Full details: www.harpceltique.ch
Maurice O Connor, by Turlough O Carolan, Irish Harper/ Composer. Played here by The Angel Band on fiddle with harp and harpsichord, banjo and guitar. Harpsichord was often used to imitate the sound of a harp when the harp was missing from traditional groups around the 1960s in Irish folk music. The music of O Carolan (1670-1732) is on the programme for the concert on April 21st.
