Embassy of Ireland review, April 2014

Yesterday evening I  opened a concert in Lausanne commemorating Brian Boru and the Battle of Clontarf.  The group, Tale of the Gael, a predominantly Irish group, though with members based in both Switzerland and Ireland, is well known to this Embassy and played to a very high standard. The musical programme was varied and mixed with interesting information on Brian Boru, the battle and Irish/Norse customs of the time.

The group travels and plays across Europe, so I thought it might be useful to colleagues in  to share the information about  entertaining and informative cultural programmes this group regularly presents in case any of you are wish to host something similar in the future.

Just to let you know we really enjoyed your concert. You did a great job and it was obviously a great success for you.
Hope Basel went as well for you as Zurich. It would have been difficult to beat it.

..from our perspective it went down a treat and for those in my group that had never heard an Irish harp or for that matter Irish traditional music they were impressed. We all had a wonderful evening and the music was well suited to the acoustics of the venue. The CDs are great too, some really nice arrangements..

Your concert was so fantastic that words couldn’t describe how enjoyable it was. You can all be so proud of your marvellous performance. It was a very special evening with so many meaningful and sincere moments.
The little girls were so adorable.                                   L.Douse, Zurich

…We enjoyed it all very much. Congratulation to all the band members.  Your choice of carols and tunes and your
mixture of jigs, reels and airs and even storytelling
was excellent…..I loved the storytelling bit …
